Affordable Charters Fishing Report

The water temperature has risen to the mid 50’s in the past week which has caused the red drum to spread out & bite a little more. They seem to be hitting mirror lures (52 m11’s) & white bucktails. There has been reports of some good catches of larger drum in the Carolina Beach Inlet. In the waterways & river still catching some speckled trout & a few Virginia mullet at the mouth of the Cape Fear River. Keep fishing & stay safe.

Shawn Carty caught several red drum. Most around the 30 inch range while fishing with artificial bait in the surf this past week.

 A few red drum are being caught in the surf & in the back bays. They are very hard to get to bite because of the water temperature so you have to move very slow with your presentation of bait. Catching a few small speckled trout in the Cape Fear River & in the boat basins on artificial bait. In the Cape Fear River up around Wilmington & in the Brunswick River catching some striped bass & some nice size speckled trout. At the mouth of the Cape Fear the spring run of Virginia mullet is just starting using shrimp on bottom rigs.

Hopefully spring has sprung & the water temperature will start rising rapidly which will turn the fishing on a little more. It’s been a long winter but remember until bait shows up like minnows & shrimp fishing will be slow.
